In the fall of 2005, I welcomed my University of New Orleans Spanish students on the first day of class—and then never saw them in person again.
Hurricane Katrina hit the following Monday morning, flooding the campus and changing our lives forever...
Eventually, we started the process of moving our Spanish courses online and I found that the logistics of connecting students with native speakers on Skype were challenging to say the least.
Despite the difficulties, I immediately saw how connecting students and coaches for authentic, low-anxiety conversations brought real magic to the language-learning process
These days, improved technology has made these kinds of connections much easier and LinguaMeeting has grown to over 200 schools, with 100,000 students per year, more than 100 language coaches, and a global team.
The need for speaking practice and cultural exchange continues to grow—and LinguaMeeting is proud to support it all with our network of wonderful coaches and user-friendly platform.
Our relationship-based approach creates a trusted connection in which confidence, curiosity, and cultural competence can grow. By guiding students from simple language practice to real-world conversations, we hope to inspire language learners to continue their journey!
